Cleo Hyzy Ember Bodywork

My mission is to provide grounding, restorative, and intuitive touch to guide people toward more embodiment.

I became interested in bodywork through learning self massage techniques for chronic pain I experienced. I found myself wanting to share this knowledge and work with my community in a way that has a direct, healing impact. I also became fascinated by the body’s ability to heal itself and by the ways our bodies adapt to how we use them.

I graduated from Carolina Massage Institute in Hillsborough, NC, where I received training in Swedish massage, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, acupressure, and reflexology. I have also completed training in craniosacral therapy. I use a combination of these modalities for a therapeutic session based on you and your body’s needs that day.

I also practice Reiki and I incorporate this practice into my sessions as well as my daily life. I am grateful to be able to offer energy healing in addition to bodywork to provide a more holistic approach to healing. Please see my Reiki page to read about the ongoing process of accountability and education that I am in as an energy worker.

Before opening my practice, I worked as a Program Coordinator at the LGBT Center of Raleigh, where I promoted community and connection through groups and events for queer folks in the Triangle. I have also previously been certified as a Peer Support Specialist and learned how to use my lived experience to support others in recovery.

I live and practice on Eno and Occaneechi land colonized as Durham, NC.

I am a white, queer woman, and a Virgo with a Gemini rising. I look forward to supporting you on your healing path.

Why Ember Bodywork?

When I decided I wanted to open my own bodywork and energy healing practice, I made a list of words related to nature that resonated with me.

I was looking for a word that conveyed some of the ways I want people to feel when working with me: grounded, centered, warm. I felt drawn to the ones that were associated with fire because I wanted to call in some of the properties that element represents: manifestation, creativity, growth.

Ember stood out to me in reflecting on all of this: the ground and center of a fire that holds the last of the heat as it fades; connecting to the warmth and energy at one’s center; healing as both a process and a result— an ember that sustains a fire as it burns and remains after it goes out.

I had this in mind when I made the logo— it’s the alchemical symbol for fire, an upward pointing triangle, in the design of a simple tattoo I have.
